Boats & onboard experience
Every Bae Boats boat is a 100% electric Duffy cruiser that seats up to 10 passengers — the pink Fantail seats up to 8 — with Bluetooth speakers and a picnic table on board. There are no restrooms aboard; public restrooms are available at the marina in both Alameda and Sausalito.
Before you depart you receive a full safety briefing and a map of the approved cruising area, available in printed and digital form. Bringing your own food and drinks is encouraged, and our next-door neighbours — Mosley's Café in Alameda and FISH in Sausalito — will pack a box or a picnic for the boat if you would rather not bring your own.
The Duffy Old Bay has the most interior space of any boat in the Alameda fleet and a full window enclosure, which makes it the warmest and most weatherproof choice. The Duffy Suncruiser has an enclosed cabin plus an open rear deck, and is our most-booked boat. The pink Fantail is completely open-air with no window enclosure, so it is best on warm, still days. In Sausalito we operate the Duffy Suncruiser, our newest boat.
All Bae Boats boats have a top speed of 6 mph. That is the right speed for the protected, no-wake waterways we operate on — the Oakland Estuary in Alameda and Richardson Bay in Sausalito. From Grand Marina you can comfortably reach the Fruitvale Bridge, Coast Guard Island and the houseboat rows within a two-hour rental; from Clipper Yacht Harbor you can take in the floating homes, Belvedere Island and the Golden Gate Bridge views in the same time.
Safety & regulations
The driver must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid driver's licence. A boating licence and a California Boater Card are not required for any Bae Boats rental.
Children 13 and under must wear a life jacket at all times on board, and life jackets for adults and children are provided on every boat. All guests must sign a liability and damage waiver before departure. We follow California boating regulations and give safe-navigation guidance during the safety briefing before you leave the dock.
Well-behaved dogs under 45 lbs are welcome on Bae Boats rentals for a $45 pet fee, and service animals are always allowed. The Pup Packages include the pet fee.
Yes. Bae Boats boats are self-captained and designed for guests with no boating experience. The waterways we operate on are protected and no-wake, our dock team walks every driver through the controls and the rules of the water before departure, and you leave with a map of the approved cruising area. Most guests are driving confidently within ten minutes.
Cancellations & weather
Cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours before your reservation and your payment moves to a new date or converts to gift-card credit. Cancellations made within 24 hours of departure, and no-shows, are charged in full.
If Bae Boats cancels your rental because of weather or an unforeseen issue, you may choose a full refund or a credit toward a future booking.
Most Bay Area days are comfortable on the water, and the fully enclosed Duffy Old Bay is a good choice in cooler or damper conditions. If Bae Boats decides the conditions are unsafe, we cancel and you choose either a full refund or a credit. We will contact you as early as possible on the day.
Pricing, payments & deposits
Rentals are paid in full at the time of booking, either online or by phone. A $500 security hold is placed on your card 24 hours before the reservation and released once the boat is returned without damage. Depending on your bank, releasing a hold can take up to 48 hours.
Pricing varies by boat model and rental length, and the current rate for your date is always confirmed live at checkout. Rates are per boat, not per person.
Yes. In Alameda you can pre-order a curated charcuterie box from Mosley's Café, delivered to your boat before departure, and arrange a balloon delivery from our partner Lifted Balloons. In Sausalito, FISH offers a coastal picnic menu built for a day on the water. Tell us what you are planning when you book and we will coordinate it with the marina.
Parking & arrival
Alameda. Park at the Grand Marina lot at 2099 Grand St, or in the public lot at the Grand Street boat ramp next to the dock. Check in at the marina reception area, where restrooms are available, and our host will walk you to your boat.
Sausalito. Park at Clipper Yacht Harbor, 310 Harbor Dr. Follow the instructions in your booking confirmation and meet our host at the brown wooden Clipper Yacht Harbor sign next to the sports pier.
Please arrive 15 minutes before your reservation time. That gives you enough time to check in, sign your waiver, take the safety briefing and get settled on board before your rental clock starts.
Yes. Every guest must sign a liability and damage waiver before departure. You can complete it online in advance using the Alameda waiver or the Sausalito waiver, or sign at the dock when you arrive.
Food, drink & pets
Yes — bringing your own food and drinks is encouraged. There is a picnic table on board, and limited snacks are available for purchase on site. For something more considered, Mosley's Café in Alameda will deliver a curated charcuterie box to the boat, and FISH in Sausalito offers a coastal picnic menu you can pre-order.
Yes. Well-behaved dogs under 45 lbs are welcome on any Bae Boats rental for a $45 pet fee, and service animals are always allowed. If you would like the pet fee, a Fi Series 3+ smart collar with a six-month subscription and onboard extras included, book the Pup Package — available in both Alameda and Sausalito.
Yes. Children of all ages are welcome on every Bae Boats boat, and life jackets are provided for adults and children. Children 13 and under must wear a life jacket at all times on board. Children count toward the boat's passenger capacity — up to 10 guests on the Suncruiser and Old Bay, and up to 8 on the pink Fantail.
