The experience

Open air, pink everything, and the best photos on the estuary

The Fantail is the only Bae Boats model in Alameda with no window enclosure at all. What you get instead is an open-air boat with an outdoor deck, pink upholstery, pink hull detailing and uninterrupted views in every direction. It is, by a wide margin, the boat guests photograph most.

Because it is open, the Fantail is a warm-weather boat. Dress for the day, bring a layer and a blanket for the ride home, and plan your rental for late morning or early afternoon when the estuary is at its calmest. In exchange you get the most social layout in the fleet: everyone faces each other, nobody is behind glass, and the whole boat is a photo opportunity.

The Fantail carries up to eight guests and is self-captained. No California Boater Card and no licence are required — the driver must be 21 or older with a valid driver's licence, and you will receive a full safety briefing and cruising map before you leave the dock.

Who it suits

Who books this boat

  • Warm-weather cruisers. Book the Fantail for sunny, still days when being outside is the whole point.
  • Photo and celebration groups. Bachelorette parties, birthdays and anything that deserves a distinctive backdrop.
  • Groups of up to 8. Smaller than the Suncruiser and Old Bay, and the most sociable layout of the three.
  • People who want the lowest hourly rate in Alameda. The Fantail is our best-value Alameda boat.
